Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends ....
It's good to be back home! Did you miss me? Take better aim next time.
So did you see me on TechTV? No? That's because I didn't make it to the show. I was detained in San Jose while we were taking care of some other paperwork that had to be filed. It was okay though, I was a little over an hour closer to home. I took the 101 along the coast, it was beautiful!
So how was the trip? Awesome! Can I give you anymore information than I already have? No. I think I will quit teasing you until I can really talk about it (that is, unless you enjoy being teased.
)
I can tell you this: I had what must have been the WORST Hotel room in the world. I kid you not, this thing was a total of 10 feet long by 8 feet wide. There were scuff marks on the wall, the TV didn't work and you couldn't open the closet door more than half way with out hitting the tiny little desk by the front door. Oh yes, it was quite the adventure, BUT WAIT! There's more ...
The bed was shorter than I was. When laying down, my feet an ankles actually were hanging off the end of the bed. No fooling. Plus the comforter had little comfort, as it had a myriad of "odd" stains on it. However, the comforter looked very nice covering the non-working TV.
Then there was the bathroom. you know how the plumbing fixture is supposed to have a hole in the wall to go through that's sealed, right? Well someone decided not to measure BEFORE cutting, and the result was the pipe entered the wall a good 3 inches BELOW where the hole was. To make matters worse, they didn't even bother to seal it. I did make a nice entry way for mice and other bay area rodents, though. The floor was tile, and had grout from what seemed to be the 17th century. It was dirty and some of it was missing, and they thought to replace it was brand new, ultra white caulking. Not grout, caulking. You know, the stuff you seal wall joints with? At least it gave you something to look at while you were... *ahem*... sitting there.
Then there was the shower. Is it just me, or do some hotel actually believe they will be make a fortune catering the midget community? I'm not kidding you, this shower was just slightly bigger around than I was, and the shower head hit me directly below the chest .... fully extended (the shower head, not my chest) I had to bend WAY over just to get my hair wet. Thank goodness this wasn't a prison.
To make matters worse, they had this "Euro" soap dispenser in the shower that puts out this semi-floral smelling body and hair soap. I wasn't planning on using it because I had brought my own. sadly, every time I tried to turn around in this death-trap water ride I would accidentally hit the "Euro" and soap would come out. by the time I was done with my shower, I was knee-deep in this nasty smelling viscous fluid and only wet from the chest down. It was like something from a bad horror film. Oh yes, it was a party waiting to happen.
Did I mention this room was located right next to the fire escape in the alley where the "people of the night" like to congregate? All night long there were people and animals rattling the damn thing. To add to this symphony of urban sounds, the walls were so thin, I could hear people in the other rooms ... 3 doors away. How do I know? I actually walked down the hall to find out the source of one of the sounds. What I thought was the sound of some lady's .... um .... how do you say, "personal massage unit," turned out to be a clock radio alarm going off in an empty room. And the other sounds weren't anything cool like hearing people having sex or something ... oh no, not for good ol' DG, I got to hear 50-year old men going to the crapper and people who like to take showers at 4 AM.
Here's an off-topic thought, if someone has a fetish for listening to people make love does that mean they are into aural sex? Sorry, moving on...
So you may be saying at this point, "So DG, was there anything good about staying at this place?" Sure. The only good part was it was within walking distance of all of the office building and federal places we needed to go.
Am I whining about the trip? Hell no, I love adventures like this they make for AWESOME stories. Would I have rather NOT heard old men's bowel movements? Yes, I think so. All in all it was a great drive, had some great food at Absinthe and got a lot of biz stuff done.
Today is move all of my personal finance stuff over to the new computer. Oh yes, I'll be posting pics of it today, if I can.
Hope you all have a great Saturday, and drive carefully.
DG

Did DT and I ever tell you about the hotel we stayed at in Santa Clara? It was like it was run by the Aadam's Family. Really creepy, really weird. Bad weird.
