  • Detox Diet Day 3

Today was not so good. I had a protein drink for breakfast and some celery sticks as a snack, then a protein drink for lunch, and got stuck in a meeting till 4:30. I really should have had some thing to eat, but I got all arrogant thinking I had this thing wired. Ended up with my blood sugar hitting the floor, getting all light headed and grumpy. How's that working for me? Tomorrow should be much better, as I get to introduce grains into the diet. I've decided to keep the diet going until Friday, and then call it good. That will be 14 days of detoxing.

I think that should be good enough.

Colonic tomorrow, then more grains and then Monday it's the final colonic. I feel really good other than that, I'm sleeping better, my clothes fit better, my eyes are getting clear. It's really all been good.

    On to day 4.

  • Detox Diet: Day 2.

Today was good. Had a protein drink in the morning, some water stir fry for lunch and a small salad and protein drink for dinner. All in all, I feel really good. I've noticed I don't need as much sleep and I've got really good, sustained energy throughout the day. It's nice.

Two days until I introduce a grain into the diet. It'll be interesting to see how that goes. I'm thinking now that a lot of my energy issues had to do with my sugar intake. Not having and processed sugar in the last 2 weeks (not to mention two days of no sugar whatsoever) has really made an impact on my health. I just plain feel better.

One of the feedback questions from yesterday was am I going to go back to my old eating habits when this is all over. I don't think so. I look at it this way ... I'm 44 years old, I've got to make plans. I've spent the better part of my life eating really bad, so why not change some things now before I hit middle age at 80?

On a side note, I go in for colonic #2 on Tuesday. It will be interesting to see if anything has changed going from the juice fast to the detox. I'll let you know.

  • Detox Diet: Day 1.

Well, I had an easy day today. I had made some water stir fry veggies (can't use heated oil for some god-forsaken reason ... something about the breakdown of the oil causes toxicity) for brunch with garlic, ginger, onion and olive oil applied after. Very tasty. I feel pretty damn good, to be honest. My energy level is way up, my eyes are getting whiter and I have much more stamina. Good stuff.

Dinner, I did the stir fry thing again, with a big salad. Stopped eating when I got full. Drank spearmint tea and water all day. So day one was a sucess! Side note: I can now fit into XL t-shirts as opposed to XXL. Nice.

We'll see how things go tomorrow .... I don't forsee any detox problems, since I think I got most of the side effects out during the juice fast.

  • So yesterday was my break from the juice fast. It went great. As was recomended, I started off slow ... have a smoothie from "Juice it Up" in the morning, for lunch had a bowl of rice and some Miso soup at a shabu-shabu bar, and for dinner, miso, rice and a small salad with tofu. To be honest, I was surprised at how full I felt. I slept great last night, and I'm up at 6:00am today. So much for sleeping in.

Today is the start of round 2, the detox diet. It's all greens and select oils for the next 4 days, after that, it's one grain a day plus the greens for the last 4. In between this, I have another colonic on Tuesday, and the day after the detox ends I have my last colonic. I'm really glad I did the juice fast BEFORE the detox, as I think it will lessen the impact of the detox.

Also on Monday, I'm going to do a Liver/Kidney flush ... I've been told that's really benifical for the detox part of this, as it gets rid of toxins and small stones that clog the bile ducts. Once again, if I'm going to do this, I may as well go all the way.

So what have I noticed as far as benifits from this? A general sense of well being, more clear headed, my razor wit hs seemed to gotten sharper, my wake up time in the morning has gone from an hour to 15 minutes and I sleep really soundly. Oh yeah .... I also lost 18 pounds.

I'll let you know how things go today ... gotta get creative with the steamed veggies.

  • Juice Fast Day 7:

Today was good. Felt awesome all day. Good energy level, took in about 36 oz of juice, lots of green tea and water. Felt pretty clear. The other thing that happened today was the colonic.

No to be honest with you, I had heard horror stories about colonics, but they were unfounded. It was more like a enema with a stomach massage. It was interesting, as you got to lay on your back on a table/bed, and watch the stuff come out through the tube. Now, as gross as that may sound it was interesting. Just when I thought she couldn't get anything else outta me, she does a couple massage moves, and WHAM! The whole session lasted 45 minutes and was pretty comfortable .... well, as you can be with a tube up your ass. But she had soft music and dim lights, so I didn't feel too violated.

The juice fast ends tonight, and the new regiment starts on Saturday, so Friday, I'm going to have a smoothie for breakfast, some Miso soup for lunch and some more miso soup and rice for dinner. That way, I can get the motor going again, before I start eating the greens.

One thing the lady told me is I might want to consider doing a liver/gall bladder flush (it's an organic recipe you do at home) while doing round 2. I think I'll do just that. Might as well go all the way, if I'm going to go at all.

Thanks for bearing with me on my journey to better heath. I'll keep posting about my experience, if you don't mind. I'll be done with the detox portion a week from Sunday, so I'll let you know all about my exploits.

Thanks for bearing with me and my bodily functions.

  • Juice Fast Day 6:

Today was interesting. I tried something different. I had no juice until dinner time. All I consumed was water and green tea. I felt pretty good, no real hunger pangs, and my energy level was up pretty good. It's interesting how little food you need. I came home and had about 20 oz of Juice for dinner. Feel great.

Tomorrow is my last day of the juice fast. Friday, I'll slowly start eating to work my way up for Sat. when I do the detox diet. I'll start out with smoothies, have some Miso soup for lunch and eat a small salad for dinner. Shoudl feel good to actually chew food again. Also going on tomorrow is the high colonic. I'll report on that adventure tomorrow.

The book I used for the juice fast is listed below (I disreagarded the "new age" stuff in it), and the detox diet can be found here.

Talk to you after the "raging waters."

  • Juice Fast Day 5:

Today was a mixed bag. I had tons of energy, but got a headache from my back being out. Went to the Chiro to get adjusted and got a wicked muscle spasm that gave me a migraine. On the upside, I was able to knock it down with hot packs by around 10pm, so I was able to fall alseep and slept like a rock.

I only drank about 45oz of juice, and didn't feel that hungry at all. Other than the headache, I'm feeling really good.

Oh, to answer the questions you've been asking. I'm detoxing from just plain bad eating, nothing like heroin or anything like that, just time to clean out the system for the next round.

    On to Day 6.

  • Juice Fast Day 4:

Today was by far the best day. It took me about 10 minutes to wake up completely this morning ... and I actually felt like I had energy. I think I had only 40oz of juice today, along with water and hot green tea seemed to make all the difference in the world. I really didn't feel like I "had" to eat. You know, that gnawing feeling deep down in the pit of your stomach? After drinking my juice at lunch, I felt totally satisfied ... usually, I have the need to eat something sweet after lunch ... you know, just to cap things off.

As a side benifit, I lost over 8 pounds. This is indeed, a good way to jump start my new lifestyle. Will I still have chips and salsa? Hell yes. Will I still have chicken and waffles? Hell yes. Will I have them on a regular basis? Hell no! I think it's all about moderation ... including moderation.

My colonic is 3 days away, the day before the juice fast ends and the detox fast starts. In a strange way, I'm kinda looking forward to it. Well, not the part about having a high pressure nozzle up inside me, the part about feeling cleaned out after. I've talked to people who had them and they were telling me about the great feeling the next day when you wake up. Well see ... I'm kind of excited about how this turns out.

    On to day 5!

  • Juice Fast Day 3:

Today went ok. I felt kinda out of sorts and lethargic, with sporadic bursts of energy. Made an appointment to get a high colonic on Thursday. That will be day 6. I'm thinking I'll only do the juice fast for a week, and then do the other detox for the next. I'm really missing solid foods. So this coming Friday is my end point.

Today I had about 60 oz of juice .... everything from carrots, celery, spinach, parsley, bell pepper, apple, orange, watermelon .... the list goes on. Lots of water and green tea.

On another note, I come across a revelation. Don't watch the Food Network while you are fasting. How's that common sense thing working for me? Also, today was the day they delivered the Girl Scout Cookies. Do you know how hard it was staring that box of Thin Mints down? However, I won the battle.

They say day 4 is the day you really start feeling better. We'll see.

  • Juice Fast Day 2:

Well, it wasn't the horror show I thought it was going to be. The only effects I noticed was a general lethargy and overall grumpiness. Didn't like loud noises either. Started off the day with 4oz of wheatgrass and a cleansing cocktail (carrot, beet, parsley, apple), and drank green tea and water for most of the day. I think I only drank a total of 40 oz of juice today. Just didn't have the need to feel full.

It's 6:30 in the morning, and I feel pretty decent. Pretty clear headed and such. Which is pretty amazing since I didn't get any sleep last night. We're house sitting a friend's Yorkie for a month. To make a long story short, the dog was home sick and decided to bark about it every freaking half hour.

Oh yes, my good friend Faquet asked if I was giving up Absinthe. Yes, I am, but only for the duration of the fast. I have an absinthe convention in Seattle in the middle of April and well ... you get the idea.

Today the painter comes at 9:00 am to paint the garage, and then the flooring guy comes on tuesday or weds.

Got some good news yesterday ... we had thought the roof was going to cost us $5 - 6 grand to replace. Turns out, all we need is new flashing and facia boards. $1300. Whew!

Let's see how Day Three goes ....
